E MELODIC - MY FIRST ORIGINAL TRACK

Welcome to my first original track called E Melodic.

There is an interesting story behind this tune.

I had some time off work due to a severe motorbike accident in Ecuador, in 2013.

After I was medivaced back to Australia, I was rushed to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne awaiting my fate.

I had to have 3 surgeries to try and save my hip, but I eventually needed a total right hip replacement. I literally could not walk or do much else for years, so I took the opportunity to reconnect with my bass and get my ideas onto an EP.

Music was a savour for me during this crazy time.

The bass was recorded by the legendary renowned session bassist - Craig Newman. The drums were recorded, and the full mix was done my Matt Darcy. The mastering was done by Joe Carra @ Crystal Mastering.

I’ve used my beloved Ernie Ball Music Man 2001 Sterling 4-string, and my Warwick NT Thumb Bass 2010 5-string, both with a fresh set of Ernie Ball slinkies. We tracked the bass through an Avalon 737, an Avalon U5 DI, and an amazing handmade Giles Audio VDI.

The production crew were amazing to work with, and throughout this time I learnt a lot: how to lay down the correct feel and velocity when recording bass, how my basses recorded with this style of playing, how this specific gear selection worked together. Through sitting in on your own mixing you can take a lot on board about the process.

Working with Craig was an awesome experience, as he’s one of the best bass players I know. I also sat in on the drum sessions with Vish Vadivelu, and I’m really happy with the audio quality of this EP.
